About The Genesis House
The Genesis House was founded in 1972 by John Novads, a recovering drugaddict and alcoholic. John, along with several other Our Family graduates, came to Vallejo with the idea of establishing a place where other addicts could come to start their recovery. In the years that have past the program has grown from a re-entry house to a fully licensed and certified residential drug and alcohol treatment program, from one small house to four houses, from a staff of one to a staff of ten.
Some things have not changed, we still believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to change; we still believe that honesty is the cornerstone to recovery and we still believe that doing the right thing will produce positive results in individuals and our community. It has always been our goal to create a positive environment and a “culture” based on shared beliefs, common values and relationships that encourage personal growth.
Thousands of individuals have passed through our doors since May of 1972. Our Alumni include individuals from every race, ethnic group and socio-economic level. We have alumni who are teachers, government employees, realtors, contractors, electricians, business owners and corporate managers. Many of our alumni have reunited with their families and many are once again responsible parents.
Fundraising is necessary to keep our doors open, but fundraising also allows us the opportunity to affirm our belief that “treatment works”. It also allows us to be inspired by the support we receive when we ask for a small donation. Your contributions go to direct services for our clients. We have been part of the Solano community for over 43 years and we are grateful for the support we receive.
